Katherine Heigl not leaving

Grey's Anatomy creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes wants to set the record straight: There has been no talk of Katherine Heigl leaving the medical drama.

Rumors about the starlet wanting to exit the show began this summer, after Heigl, who plays Dr. Izzie Stevens, said she wasn't submitting her name for Emmy consideration this year because the writers didn't deliver Emmy-worthy material.

When asked about the rumors, Rhimes told The Associated Press, "We have every intention of seeing Katherine for the entire season." But has the actress expressed any interest in leaving the hit show? Rhimes responded firmly, "No, she has not."

Rhimes cites what she calls "the Dawson's Creek phenomenon," in which a "bunch of lovely and young actors" must learn to cope with the sudden fame a TV hit brings," as a possible reason for the all the off-screen drama (including Isaiah Washington's alleged gay slur toward costar T.R. Knight and his subsequent firing).

"These are people who went from living their lives to not being able to walk down the street without paparazzi being able to follow them wherever they go," she said.

Are you happy that Izzie will be back for the whole season?

Is there any hope for some Alex/Izzie romance in the new season of Grey's Anatomy? — Layla
Mickey: I spied the season premiere the other day, and — at least in that episode — the simple answer is "yes," there is hope. But as with most things in Shondaland, the real answer is much more complicated. (That's what you get when half of the couple is profoundly self-destructive.)

Shonda Rhimes speaks! The Grey's Anatomy creator and executive producer posted some thoughts on last night's premiere on her official blog. But basically, she's content letting this terrific episode speak for itself - and telling us we ain't seen nothin' yet ...
*************
So Derek got dead, Mer and Cristina got old together, and Izzie showed Denny her prom dress.
Such is the stuff of dreams. Which was kind of my theme. For this episode. And this season. Dreams. And whether or not they come true.
This is Season Five, people.
We, the writers, we call it our all in, go for broke season. We’re like the Chief – the bar has been raised and we’re the ones raising it. For us, Grey's Anatomy is new again. Full of chances and possibilities. Our characters are new again, starting fresh. We’re hopeful again.
And we’re enjoying being hopeful. All the rules are changing.
I know you are wondering, “Okay, what does this mean?” And I could tell you. But I’d rather you watch and see for yourselves.
Watch what happens with Meredith and Derek, Cristina and that guy Owen, Callie and Erica, Bailey, the Chief, George, Lexie, Mark, Izzie and Alex.
All the clues for this season are right there in this first episode. Nothing happens without a reason. Every line of dialogue has a point.
At least, I hope it does. I’m pretty tired but I think I’m right.
That’s all I’m going to say. Because we’re shooting the eighth episode right now. And I’ve got to get to the set to watch a scene being filmed.
So you’ll have more to watch.
I’ll try to write more later. Thanks for sticking with us. We’re going to do our damnedest to make it worth your while.
The bar has been raised, people. Consider yourselves on notice.

Traduction rapide :
Shonda Rhimes parle!

Latest from Ausiello
SpoilerTv

Question: Any scoop on Grey's Anatomy's Callie and Erica? - Ally
Ausiello: Their secret affair won't be a secret much longer. Next week, word of their sapphic romance makes its way to two of their colleagues. Also in the episode: One of last season's most significant relationships comes to an end.

Question: Grey's spoilers please! - Jack
Ausiello: Alex and Izzie contemplate moving in together next week. Well, one of them contemplates it. The other one just says mean and hurtful things.

Question: Any good Mer/Der news? - Emily
Ausiello: This is more Der than Mer, but the Oct. 16 episode will feature Patrick Dempsey completely naked save for one strategically placed pillow. That's pretty good, yes ?

traduction rapide et approximative:
Question - Ally: Un scoop sur Callie et Erica dans Grey's Anatomy ?

Question - Emily: Une bonne nouvelle sur Mer / Der ?

Question: First off, could I pleeeease get some Grey's spoilers? -- Heather
Ausiello: Here's your Grey's scoop: The long-simmering Mer-Der-Izzie-Alex quadrangle comes to a head this week. Okay, maybe "long-simmering" is a bit much. Basically, Derek gives Mer an ultimatum about their new living arrangements: "If I move in, your friends [i.e. Izzie and Alex] must move out." I won't reveal how the housing shake-up plays out, but I can tell you that by the end of the episode a new classic TV odd couple will be born. (Hint: The unlikely duo may or may not include any of the folks listed above.)

Ausiello: Maybe they need a third party to spice things up? If so, help is on the way! According to my Grey's snitch, when Melissa George debuts as Seattle Grace's latest bisexual intern on Nov 6., we'll learn that she has a history with -- holy lipstick lesbians! -- Meredith. Needless to say, Derek is very anxious to find out the exact nature of their history, and whether or not it can be repeated. In front of him. Repeatedly.

Question: Alex and Izzie spoilers, please! I've loved them forever! Claire
Ausiello: Then something tells me you're going to fall head over heels for next Thursday's episode, which may feature a big Alex-Izzie smooch. And by may I mean definitely will.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan returns
Time to dust off those brain tumor rumors: Katherine Heigl is seeing dead people again on Grey's Anatomy.

For the second time this season, Jeffrey Dean Morgan's deceased Denny will descend from heaven to have a heart-to-heart with his Earth-bound soul mate, Izzie, sources confirm to me exclusively. ABC declined to comment, but my Grey's mole says Morgan will appear in the Nov. 6 episode.

What brings Denny back this time? I could tell you, but then Shonda Rhimes would kill me and, well, you'd all be up scoop's creek. Instead, I'll leave you with this tantalizing clue: Something happens in the episode that could easily set the stage for a Heigl departure at season's end. I'm not saying it will; only that it could.

Think you got it figured out? The comments section is currently accepting your theories.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan revient.

Magda in Los Angeles: There's a rumor going around again about Izzie being killed off at the end of this season of Grey's! Will there be no happily ever after for Alex and Izzie, aka the hottest couple on the show?
Reliable sources tell me those rumors are bunk and she won't be going anywhere. And for the record, Katherine Heigl actually seems quite happy with her storylines this season. When asked about the future of Alex and Izzie at the Peter Alexander boutique opening benefiting Hearts United for Rescue and Kinder4Rescue, Katherine told me, "There's nothing I can reveal, but it's been awesome. It's been really exciting for me and really, really fun, satisfying work. I love Justin [Chambers]! How can you not love Justin? Sorry. He is just such a doll. I mean it's weird—I've been working with all of these people for five years. They're like my family. I mean, I see them actually more than my own family! We have so much fun together." And I hear there is definitely more "fun" (of the horizontal nature) for Izzie and Alex up ahead!

Is it true that Meredith will have a sexual history with Melissa George's character on Grey's Anatomy?
From the sounds of my frenemy Michael Ausiello's Q&A with Melissa and from what a reliable source tells me—"I'm pretty sure they did"—I'd place good money on it! By the by, though, I do find it amusing that this is pretty much the same storyline I'd heard they had planned for Cristina (Sandra Oh) a few seasons back, but the storyline was changed.

Q: So what's this big Denny-related story on Grey's Anatomy that could but might not open the door for Katherine Heigl to leave the show?

A: I'll say this: The exit primer I alluded to does not concern any kind of health crisis. Rather, it pertains to a very dark day in Izzie's professional career that rears its ugly head again.

Q: How long is Melissa George under contract for? Not too long I hope - Grey's Anatomy is already too bloated.

A: Reports suggest she's doing at least 11 episodes, but in my recent Q&A with her, she said there's no end date. As for the bloating
... well, are in a hospital. Aren't there pills for that?

Q: President Roslin (a.k.a. Mary McDonnell) on Grey's Anatomy?! Give us the scoop?

A: She debuts November 13, and her Dr. Virginia Dixon character shares something in common with a Bones regular.

Q: When is McArmy coming back to Grey's Anatomy? And please tell me he is going to be part of the cast.

A: As you saw at the end of last Thursday's episode, Army Major Owen Hunt is back in action - and will ruffle some feathers, stat! At this time, Kevin McKidd is on what producers are calling a "strongly recurring" status, but he certainly has the potential to become a series regular.

Trad please !!!!

What can I look forward to on Grey's Anatomy this week? Gina
Cristina will freak out over the return of Owen Hunt (aka Kevin McKidd), and though producers are keeping mum on whether or not KM's sticking around, I'm told his presence is a done deal. We should get to know the military doc pretty well this season.

Are you down with Alex and Izzie? Last week's kiss was merely a preview of things to come. Though Alex will continue to act as if he doesn't care, I'm hearing his heart is actually all-in

voici plein de nouvelles infos grace à spoilertv:

BROOKE SMITH INTERVIEW
Citation :
Brace yourselves, Grey's Anatomy fans: The show has parted ways with a female doc who is blond, beautiful, outspoken – and not Katherine Heigl. It's Brooke Smith. As in Dr. Erica Hahn. As in one half of Callica, Grey's first-ever significant gay couple. And that's only part of the story. I'm told this was not Shonda Rhimes' decision but rather an order that came down from the network. (ABC declined to comment.) According to one Grey's source, the suits "had issues" with both the explicit direction Callica was taking (think: undiscovered country, south of the border, etc.) and, more importantly, with the Hahn character in general. Basically, they didn't like her and wanted her gone ASAP. But how soon? And what does this mean for Callica? Keep yourselves braced, because the shocks don't stop in the following Q&A with the sublime Ms. Smith. She deserves better treatment than this, and next go-round, here's hoping she gets it.

AUSIELLO: What the hell happened?!
BROOKE SMITH: I was very excited when they told me that Erica and Callie were going to have this relationship. And I really hoped we were going to show what happens when two women fall in love and that they were going to treat it like any heterosexual couple on TV. And so I was surprised and disappointed when they just suddenly told me that they couldn't write for my character anymore.

That's all they said?
Yes. Frankly, it was you that warned me this might happen on the red carpet back in July. You said [sometimes networks get cold feet] with gay relationships. And I was so naive. I'm like, "It's 2008." But I'm starting to realize that not everyone feels the way I do. [Scroll down to watch our now-infamous exchange.]

Did you get the feeling that the story was making people nervous?
No. At work I had no sense of it. And more fans seemed to like it than not. I don't think I'm ever going to know [why this really happened].

When did you find out?
I found out in mid-September soon after shooting the monologue that aired last week where Erica has the revelation that she's gay. They even came down and told me it was a great scene -- one of the best they ever shot on the show. So I was really, really shocked. I was floored when they told me [I was being let go]. It was the last thing I expected. In fact, when they told me I asked, "When is this happening?" And they said, "The [next episode] is your last," which is the one that airs this Thursday. So it was very sudden.

Wait a second – your last episode is this Thursday?
Yes.

How are you written out?
I'm not written out. My final scene is just me heading to my car. I honestly don't know what happens in the next episode. I heard not much. [Quick sidebar: This sheds new light on Mary McDonnell's arrival next week as a top cardiac doc.]

Who broke the news to you?
Shonda.

I'm hearing that this wasn't her decision, but rather ABC's.
You know, I have to tell you, I got that feeling. I don't know for sure, but it definitely seemed like [Shonda's] hands were tied. That was just my gut.

Did she seem upset?
She did seem upset. I wasn't having a very good week that week. I was like, "Oh, God, what is it with this business?!" And she said, "No, no, no. You are such a great actress. We love you." It seemed like some decision came down from above. It didn't feel like it was her.

What was Sara Ramirez's [Callie] reaction?
She was shocked. I'm the one who told her. It took her a few days to get back to me because she was surprised. It was surprising to everybody.

Were you happy with the direction the story line was taking?
You know, I was starting to get there, yeah. I was personally a little impatient with the gay panic, but it was more Callie's thing anyway. I think Dr. Hahn was sort of figuring it out.

What did you think about Callie going to Mark to get pointers on exploring the "undiscovered country"?
It was a little icky. If you're a women, don't you know how to please yourself? But they seemed to be okay with that one.

How are you doing with all this?
It's actually never happened to me before. I never had a moment where I thought I did something wrong. I was just really surprised. I just moved my entire family to L.A., so it was kind of like, "What?" But for some reason I feel like I'm fine. I feel like I'm going to be okay.

Okay, Grey's fans. I'm guessing you have some strong opinions about Smith's ouster. Share them in the comments section below. But first, check out my aforementioned (and eerily prescient) interview with the actress from last July.

UPDATE: Shonda Rhimes has just released the following statement in response to this story: "Brooke Smith was obviously not fired for playing a lesbian. Clearly it's not an issue as we have a lesbian character on the show – Calliope Torres. Sara Ramirez is an incredible comedic and dramatic actress and we wanted to be able to play up her magic. Unfortunately, we did not find that the magic and chemistry with Brooke's character would sustain in the long run. The impact of the Callie/Erica relationship will be felt and played out in a story for Callie. I believe it belittles the relationship to simply replace Erica with "another lesbian." If you'll remember, Cristina mourned the loss of Burke for a full season."

BROOKE SMITH FIRED, MELISSA GEORGE NO LONGER LESBIAN
Citation :
It's true. Sources confirm that Brooke Smith, who plays Dr. Erica Hahn, has been axed from Grey's Anatomy.

Even more, I'm told by those who work on the ABC series that the gay-themed storylines and gay characters are being downplayed and even erased from upcoming scripts.

And that goes for the series' latest newcomer, Melissa George of Alias, who joins the show this month...

"Melissa came on as a lesbian character," a reliable insider tells me, "but they changed the script and now she isn't. She starts off flirting with Callie but it never goes anywhere."

Grey's has included a prominent bisexual/lesbian storyline this season in the blossoming relationship between Hahn (Smith) and Callie (Sara Ramirez). I'm told that that storyline will end abruptly in this Thursday's episode, which will be Smith's last appearance on the series.

"They don't really give her a goodbye," an ABC source tells me. "It ends rather abruptly."

E.W.'s Michael Ausiello first broke the news of Brooke's dismissal today. "I was very excited when they told me that Erica and Callie were going to have this relationship," Brooke told E.W. "And I really hoped we were going to show what happens when two women fall in love and that they were going to treat it like any heterosexual couple on TV. And so I was surprised and disappointed when they just suddenly told me that they couldn't write for my character any more."

ABC also fired Rebecca Romijn—who plays transgender Alexis Meade—as a series regular from Ugly Betty at the end of last season. Could this be a new trend with the network, or just another unfortunate scandal Grey's will withstand?

LATEST FROM KRISTIN

Citation :
Linda in West Virginia: I love me some Major Hottie! Will he and Cristina hook up on Grey's?

G.A. is now casting "star names only" for a "former military nurse who is maternal." Might that be...the Major's mom? If so, here's to hoping things go better for Cristina with her than with Burke's badass mamacita Diahann Carroll. 'Cause I'm hearing Cristina most definitely has a "Major" romance coming on!

RUMOR : SARA RAMIREZ DEPARTING ?

Citation :
I’ve just spoken with a contact at AfterEllen.com and she is confirming that Brooke Smith is not the only one being let go. Apparently Sara Ramirez will be exiting at roughly episode 15 or 16 and they’re jockeying for an interview with her. According to what I’ve been told, Melissa George has been brought in for Mark’s character because the ABC brass wanted a ‘name’ actor for him and liked Melissa from her stint on Alias. The head honchos are the ones who lured Melissa George into the show and asked Rhimes to create a backstory for her that would connect her with Meredith (or another established character) to ‘ground her’ with roots from the beginning.

MATT MITOVITCH ABOUT ERICA’S EXIT
Citation :
Of course, questions remain about why esteemed surgeon Dr. Erica Hahn will abruptly exit stage left, leaving behind a sweet job and the very woman who opened her eyes to "leaves." Contrary to some online accounts, Erica will not simply hop in her car and ride away at the end of this Thursday's episode. Rather, sources tell me, "significant events" transpiring during the episode will make very clear her reasons for leaving... and shake up the lives of other Seattle Grace regulars.

According to one of his sources, Callica argue over Izzie and the whole heart-stealing mess and its lack of severity and the fight is so severe that apparently Callie “realizes she doesn’t like girls as much as Erica does.” (???!!!) And then Erica drives off and never comes back.

Wow. Just wow.

In positive news (or negative, depending on your P.O.V.) Ausiello beats down that ugly rumor that Sara Ramirez will be departing the show. She “isn’t going anywhere.”

1/LATEST FROM AUSIELLO
Citation :
Question: What's the latest on Sara Ramirez exiting Grey's Anatomy? -- Hanna
Ausiello: Um, I think you got your bisexuals mixed up. Dr. Hahn was given the boot, not her girlfriend. A Grey's insider assures me that Sara Ramirez "isn't going anywhere." Of course, then he suggested I check in once a week for the remainder of the show's run. You know, just to be safe.

Question: What the heck about Brooke Smith leaving on Grey's Anatomy? And her last episode is this Thursday? And Hahn's final scene consists of her leaving work for the day? Insanity. -- Keith
Ausiello: I'm going to give Shonda Rhimes the benefit of the doubt and assume she's intentionally leaving Hahn's exit ambiguous and, therefore, open to interpretation. Sort of like The Sopranos finale. Did Hahn get shot to death on the way to the parking garage? Did she pull a Thelma & Louise and drive her car off a cliff? Did the hospital's automatic doors malfunction and decapitate her? Did she return to Weeds? The possibilities are endless. Personally, I'm leaning toward the Thelma & Louise scenario. According to one of my Grey's moles, Callie and Erica have a relationship-severing blowout in tomorrow's episode that starts with an argument over whether Izzie paid a big enough price for her role in Denny-gate, and ends with Callie realizing she doesn't love girls as much as Erica does. Hey, people have killed themselves over less.

2/ TV GUIDE ABOUT SADIE AND LEXIE
Citation :
Grey's Anatomy new intern, Sadie Harris may remind you of somebody else. No not Izzie Stevens although talk is heating up that disgruntled Katherine Heigl will be allowed to exit the series at seasons end. Melissa, who signed a multi-year deal with the ABC drama, describes her character as "naughty and "mischievious" and says she has a lot in common with Angelina Jolie. As for Heigl's possible exit, "I don't know who's moving on," says Melissa, who debuts November 13, "but sometimes five years on a show may be enough for some people. Shonda Rhimes is so clever. She knows exactly what she's doing. It's smart to bring in new life"

Lexie Grey is the unlikely ringleader of a secret society of Grey's Anatomy interns who operate on each other for experience. "This is like an intern's fight club." Chyler Leigh tells me. The arrival of Melissa's reckless Sadie ups the risk factor in Lexie's underground procedures until there are "some serious ramifications for the hospital," teases Betsy Beers. Later in the season, Lexie feels the love when Meredith softens her attitude toward her little sis, Derek takes a paternal stance and boozy patriarch Thatcher likely returns.

3/ RUMOR : ERICA WILL DIE ?
Citation :
I just wanted to prepare you guys for what goes down with Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith). They do not leave it open for her return. They don't outright say that she's dead, but it makes it obvious.

She leaves at the end of the episode because she resigns at Seattle Grace. The reason she resigns is that her patient, the one that Izzie stole the heart from in Season Two, is treated at Seattle Grace. She finds out what Izzie did and gets upset when everyone, even Callie, defends Izzie.

She operates on her patient and tells the family that she hopes the procedure will be enough for him to survive with until a heart becomes available. After that, Callie tells Erica that she can't be with her anymore and Erica leaves. You see her drive away.

The next thing you see is someone calling UNOS to say that they have a heart for the guy at Seattle Grace, the one who has been waiting for two years. They say it's a healthy, 41 year old female.

And then you see Denny's ghost (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) hold out his hand and smile. But you don't see Erica. You just know it's her.
